With a multi-faceted background, extensive tax experience and a broad legal practice, Harold Feder has an acute ability to recognize the underlying tax issues in a business transaction. He specializes in tax and estate planning and corporate/commercial law, with particular emphasis on providing tax-effective structures for wealth maximization.

Working for a broad range of clients, Harold covers numerous facets of tax practice, including personal and corporate income tax planning, goods and services tax, sales and land taxes, international tax, tax litigation and dispute resolution. As a member of the Meritas Canada Tax Group, an affiliation of over 30 tax and estate planning lawyers practicing in 9 different law firms across Canada, Harold has the ability to call on an unparalleled depth of tax experience to tackle even the most complex tax issues.  He acts on a wide variety of corporate transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions, share and asset purchases, corporate re-organizations and leveraged buyouts. Harold also helps establish employee profit sharing, stock purchase and stock option plans. In addition to the business aspect of his practice, he assists in the establishment of, and provides legal advice to, numerous non-profit organizations, charitable organizations, and public and private foundations.

Harold has extensive experience in providing legal services to medical, dental and other professionals and their practices, including incorporations, practice sales, lease, and the preparation of partnership, association, shareholder and associate agreements. Harold’s health care professional practice also includes the development of tax-effective business structures for clients involving the creation of management, technical service and professional service companies.

Over and above his legal career, Harold has instructed on tax law and business law for the Bar Admission Course, and is actively involved in community activities. Harold is the immediate past chair of the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation.  Harold is a passionate sports fan both as participant and spectator, with a particular interest in hockey. He is also enthusiastic about popular music and its history, especially alternative music.
