Assistant | Brent has broad experience advising members of the business community in the creation, operation, growth and exit of their ventures. Brent has advised owner managed businesses and larger corporations on all aspects of their operations. He has a general corporate commercial practice with an expertise in transactional work. In starting up business ventures, Brent can advise on the optimal corporate structure, vehicle and governance model to be adopted by your business, including board of director mandates and shareholder agreements. Brent also has expertise in advising on the efficient management of business through corporate structure advice, including freezes and other efficiency based restructurings. Once your business is up and running, Brent can provide advice at those crucial growth and exit points. For example he can provide advice on share and asset transaction, mergers with other businesses, financings (both debt and equity) and commercial leasing matters. Brent also gained experience working in-house with a large, federally regulated telecommunications and technology company, where he gained valuable expertise in all aspects of intellectual property contracting, including software licensing, service level agreements and hardware supply. Brent is originally from the ocean playground of Nova Scotia. He completed his undergraduate education at St. Francis Xavier University and obtained a Master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Waterloo. Brent completed his L.L.B. at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. Brent and his wife have two young sons, with whom they spend as much time as possible enjoying outdoor activities, including tenting, hiking, swimming and skating. Brent has been a long time boxing aficionado and since arriving in Ottawa he has become involved in the local alpine club where he pursues hiking, ice and rock climbing and mountaineering.
