Assistant | Ron Prehogan is a partner of the law firm and President of its affiliated family business consulting company, Equitas Consultants Inc.
Ron practiced law for over 30 years handling commercial transactions of every kind including mergers, acquisitions and sales of businesses and properties, and debt and equity financing transactions. In his early professional years, Ron worked with numerous public company and institutional clients both in Ottawa and in Toronto at a prominent Bay Street law firm. However, for most of his career his chosen path has been to work with entrepreneurs and family business clients.
As a lawyer and director for family businesses, Ron observed first-hand both the benefits and challenges faced by those businesses. As time went on, he saw family dynamics becoming more of an issue yet little or nothing was being done about it. After researching the field in the United States and becoming educated and trained as a family business consultant, he decided in 2005 to launch Equitas Consultants Inc. to proactively address the succession planning needs of family businesses. Based on the US-based Family Firm Institute’s model, Equitas provides a multi-disciplinary approach to family business using its team of business, family and ownership experts working in collaboration with the client’s legal, accounting and other professional advisors.
While carrying on his professional career, Ron has chaired several boards and task forces in the not-for-profit sector in pursuit of his goal to leave the world a better place. In 2010, he was the recipient of the Gilbert Greenberg Distinguished Services Award which is the highest honour bestowed on an individual by the Ottawa Jewish community for long-standing community leadership service. Ron is currently the Chair of the Board of the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation, one of the fastest growing organizations of its kind in Ottawa.
