PROFILE

Mario joined Brazeau Seller Law in 2017, after completing the summer student and articling programs with the firm. As part of our employment law group, he assists both employers and employees in ensuring that they understand their rights and obligations. He acts on wrongful dismissal claims, human rights proceedings, employment standards proceedings, and restrictive covenant litigation. Mario also advises clients with respect to employment agreements and employee entitlements upon termination of employment.

In addition, Mario’s skill set makes him extremely well positioned to assist clients with interests in Latin America. He is able to communicate fluently, both orally and in writing, in English and Spanish. Mario was born in Costa Rica, has lived in Guatemala, and obtained his M.A. in Latin American Studies from Columbia University.

Mario has assisted Canadian cannabis companies entering into emerging markets in Latin America.

Mario has experience working on legal matters in several Latin American countries. Through our affiliation with Meritas, Mario has direct access to a network of lawyers across Latin America, and throughout the world.  He is also the Co-Chair of the Meritas Latin America and Caribbean Regional Cannabis Practice Group.

As a member of BSL’s CannaLaw® group, Mario advises in the following areas:

  • Transactions and operations in Latin America
  • Employment Law (workplace policies, human rights, and employer/employee rights and obligations)

Mario studied at the University of Victoria, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology, with honours and distinction, in 2012. He earned a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies at Columbia University in 2013, and a juris doctor degree (cum laude) at the University of Ottawa in 2016.
