As part of our employment law group, he assists both employers and employees in ensuring that they understand their rights and obligations. He acts on wrongful dismissal claims, human rights proceedings, employment standards proceedings, and restrictive covenant litigation. Mario also advises clients with respect to employment agreements and employee entitlements upon termination of employment.

As a member of BSL’s CannaLaw® group, Mario advises employers in the following areas:

  • Drafting and updating workplace policies regarding cannabis
  • Understanding the human rights implications relating to the medical and non-medical (consumer) use of cannabis
  • Testing for impairment
  • Rights and obligations under federal and provincial cannabis laws

Mario’s skill set makes him extremely well positioned to assist clients with interests in Latin America. He is able to communicate fluently, both orally and in writing, in English and Spanish. Mario was born in Costa Rica, has lived in Guatemala, and obtained his M.A. in Latin American Studies from Columbia University.

Mario has experience working on legal matters in several Latin American countries. Through our affiliation with Meritas, Mario has direct access to a network of lawyers across Latin America, and throughout the world.
